Abstract:
UBVI CCD photometry has been obtained for the intermediate-age open
cluster M35 (NGC 2168). From this new photometry we derived the
cluster parameters (Vo-MV= 9.60±0.10 mag, E(B-V) = 0.255±0.024
mag), age (logAge=8.3±0.3) and a photometric abundance (Z~0.008,
i.e. [Fe/H]~-0.3) from comparison with theoretical isochrones of the
Padova group. A minimum binary frequency (35±5%) was estimated from
the distribution of distance moduli of unevolved proper motion
members. Faint photometric members were selected by using differences
in the reddening effect on colour indices.
Description:
BVI CCD photometry was performed for the central region of M35 on 1997
November 23 at Siding Spring Observatory with the 40-inch telescope
(f/8) and a thinned SITe 2048×2048 CCD (24-mm pixels). The scale was
0.602 arcsec/pixel, giving 20.5arcmin on a side. Two sets of exposure
times were used in the observations: long exposures 60s in I, 150s in
V, 300s in B, 600s in U; short exposures: 5s in I and V, 7s in B and
15s in U. The seeing was between 1.4 and 2.1arcsec.
