======================================================================= ==> In this proposal, more time is being requested for JGURTLER.DUSTABS ======================================================================= We propose to observe infrared spectra towards a number of young stars located in the Chamaeleon I dark cloud using ISOPHOT-S. These observations are an extension of the guaranteed time project "Embedded and background infrared sources for absorption measurements". First results from this project have shown that dust properties vary significantly from source to source as shown by the ice features present in the spectrum. From the analysis of the ISO spectra we will learn about the evolution of circumstellar dust in the vicinity of young stars. The sources located in the Chamaeleon I cloud are excellent targets for the study of dust properties due to its proximity and the data already existing.
